As the City grows ‘Convenience’ as a theme is the most important ‘best’ things about the City. This encompasses transport, accessibility and scale of the City centre. The people, staff and workers are also one of the ‘best’ things about the City.Maureen Fitzsimons

ModeratorA series of short videos created and shared on social media to help raise awareness. One further video on fesitvals in the city centre to be completed. Perhaps we can repost again?
We are trying to raise awareness of the appeal of our Purple Flag Zone – so this covers all aspects of Waterford city life – retail therapy, coffee culture, fine dining, cultural offerings, theatre, cinema, accessibility into and around the city centre following public realm works, festivals and animation. So, what future topics should be covered?

ModeratorPurple Flag fully supports the bid for Tidy Towns 2020 and congratulate the committee of Tidy Towns Waterford City for the impact they are already having on presentation in the city centre. Their recent campaign #BITT (businesses invested in Tidy Towns) is gaining traction and we are supporting in on social media etc. We join with the Tidy Towns committee in asking that all premises within the Purple Flag Zone are kept in pristine condition and that the areas outside your premises are kept clear from litter etc.
Are there any further suggestions as to how we can continue to #DoOurBITT for this campaign?Maureen Fitzsimons

ModeratorSuggestions on this welcome – any volunteers for a sub group to look at this?
Development of a market/ a night market (perhaps during festivals)?
Perhaps the Playful City’s model along the Boardwalk might be an option. See here for information on Playful City: https://www.aplayfulcity.com/
Wyse Park has been used for Winterval 2018 and the feedback is that it is very difficult to get people to visit the park (even though it runs parallel to John’s Street). Are there any further suggestions to improve the visability of the park?

ModeratorUpdate:
Purple Flag bollard and utility wraps have been introduced in 2019. They are weathered reasonably well and we will add a few additional wraps in the coming weeks. We have partnered with Winterval and will wrap 20 additional bollards with Purple Flag / Winterval wraps. The proposal of banners along The Quay received support at all levels but is conflicting with a branding excerise for which substantial funding is being sought. Waterford City met the criteria placed down by Failte Ireland for Destination Town funding which will ensure a consistent approach to all signage and branding throughout the city centre and incorporates the Cultural Quarter and North Quays. This project supersedes our proposal but we will work to ensure Waterford’s night life is reflected in future banners.
We would love to work with Waterford Walls to see a gable wall designed and painted for Purple Flag – any property owners willing to work together on this suggestion?

This forum ticks this particular box…. the concept behind the forum is to give every business and community group in the Zone the opportunity to engage with us, to help us prioritise actions and help drive and maintain standards within the Purple Flag Zone. Now, it’s over to you… please pass on your comments/suggestions to us and we will follow up.What about the packs for taxi drivers – is this something that would help improve the perception of Waterford city? What kind of detail might be included in this pack? Would taxi drivers be open to becoming ‘official’ ambassadors for the city (it is recognised that they are already ambassadors informally) and Purple Flag?

Our mascost, Hoot, is the mechanism for raising awareness at events.
Hoot represents the Purple Flag brand at St. Patrick’s Day parade and at local festivals.
